Lowestoft 3rd XI (265-8) beat Hales & Loddon A (121) by 135 runs in Norfolk League Division 4 South East
Freescoring Peter Mitchell made Hales & Loddon A suffer in the sun by hitting a century as Lowestfoft 3rds racked up a 135-run victory. Mitchell, who survived appeals for a catch behind when he was in single figures, made hay with 131 as he dominated a daunting looking 265-8 total.
After winning the toss, H&L had enjoyed the perfect start as swing bowler Sam Ford removed opener Ben Foster for a duck with a dream delivery. But Arun Nair (35) and Mitchell took the upper hand and Nehru Sujathan weighed in with 30 as a big 256-8 total was posted.
Ten-man H&L stuck gamely to their task and there several notable efforts in the field. All-rounder Will Yates bamboozled Lowestoft’s batsmen to claim 4 for 26 from six overs, while Sam Ford was rewarded for his perseverance with 3 for 53 from 10 overs, including the prize wicket of Mitchell, caught by Mark Whiting. Some good glovework saw Whiting snaffle three catches.
Martin Wells set the tone for the H&L reply with three boundaries in the opening over before being bowled for 12 by Thomas Keeble but chasing such a big target was always going to prove an uphill battle. Whiting contributed a defiant 37 before being run out, Yates weighed in with a typically combative 20 and Ford added a spirited tailend 13 before the innings closed on 121 in the 36th over.
Keeble returned 3 for 18 from six overs while Arun Nair and Harry Decoteau-Spring bagged two wickets apiece.
